Oscar Nuñez was so hard up when he shot The Office that he arrived to the first day of filming in a "junk car".

The 67-year-old actor played accountant Oscar Martínez on the beloved US comedy series, but admitted that he was struggling for cash when he first landed the role.

He told Awards Radar: "When I first got The Office, I was waiting tables and babysitting.

"And I showed up in my junk car to work to do the pilot."

Thanks to the show, Oscar has become a household name, and is likely to achieve even more success with The Office spin-off The Paper.

Signing up for the new series was a no-brainer for the actor, as he explained what it is he loves so much about the kind of physical comedy required for the role.

He grinned: "It's the best … I love it. It's the best kind of flex for me. I like physical comedy. I like all that. I like slapstick, I like all that.

"But I like being put in a position where you're being embarrassed by someone, but you have to be the cool one or the straight one. And that's always funny.

"I always find that very, very amusing to watch and to perform."

Oscar reprises his Office role in The Paper, but admitted that playing a character with the same first name as him has had its challenges - especially with his daughter August.

He said: "When my daughter was little and we'd be walking down the street and someone was like, 'Oscar'. And she's like, 'Daddy, do they know you?'

"And I'm like, 'I don't think so. It's a fan, or they either know me, but it's probably just, they know me from TV!'

"She didn't understand what that meant, but now she does."

The Paper also stars Domnhall Gleeson and Alex Edelman, and Oscar enjoyed the opportunity to act alongside new faces.

He explained: "It was nice meeting new people. I loved the cast. It's all these new people. They're all very talented, very passionate.

"Domhnall Gleason is amazing. He's a really good actor - he does comedy as well as he does drama."
