Mars Squares Jupiter; Olympians at Odds

Holiday Mathis on

The father and son dynamic between Mars and Jupiter is a classic clash of styles. Mars is impulsive and eager to show off. The youthful rely on their quick, instinctual might. Jupiter speaks as softly as Marlon Brando's "Godfather" character, with every implication widely understood. Of course, the powerful can afford to be more strategic. Their legend does the heavy lifting.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Hope is a steady, living thing in you. Not naive, not desperate. Just open. You're hoping now for the ease that comes with good relationships. Where there's mutual respect, things either work immediately or get worked out until they click.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The work won't feel like effort to you, which is a trend that will continue. Your joy is, in and of itself, an act of gratitude. You might do this even were you not paid, but don't let that keep you from asking for better compensation.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You'd love to know what they say about you when you're not there. But since you can't, you do the next best thing -- drop in interesting details that would make a good sound bite. You're a pro at optics today.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). There will be many different people and personalities to contend with and you adapt to each without losing your throughline -- patience, consistency and fairness. Once people get to know your style, they calm down and settle into your leadership.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Loose clothes and tight relationships -- that's comfort. Today, there's nothing pinching, squeezing or pressuring you. You don't have to contort yourself into any shape, or perform in any way because you're accepted as-is. You get to relax.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You do like to stay on task. But you still respect those who dilly-dally, lollygag and, yes, even loiter. They'll have information to share -- something gleaned in easygoing moments. Something you would have otherwise missed.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You already know what love is. Not in theory. Not from books. You know it in your body, in your actions, in certain relationships. You want to feel the kind of love you give directed right back at you. You're not asking for something abstract. You'll know it when you see it.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Recent financial interactions have sharpened your awareness around money. You know where it flows, who benefits, what agreements you're entering into, and what they cost over time. When you understand the system, you can make more intentional choices.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The stoic way is fine and good, though it lacks excitement. You can't blame people for wanting to be around a more electric charge. Interests and attractions will buzz around emotion. Letting emotions show will be an easy way to connect.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It's possible to feel lonely in a room full of people, because loneliness is about connection, not about the number of bodies. Today, you'll have access to a state of togetherness and connection even when there's nobody else around. How gloriously freeing.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). The person you so often disagree with will figure into today's outcomes. It doesn't have to be a drama. Anticipate friction and either add elements that will reduce it or subtract the elements that tend to cause the rub.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). There's something exciting that's been in the back of your mind and wants to come to the front of your schedule instead. You can totally pull this off, and the dreaming and scheming are definitely part of the fun.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (May 4). Welcome to your Year of Grounded Glory. You'll enjoy tangible successes evidenced in the physical world. You'll invest in people and change lives. More highlights: You'll update your image, habits, and mindset all at once with a new practice. Relationships come in a range of tones, some exciting, some comforting, some regularly supportive of a peaceful, easy feeling. Gemini and Leo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 10, 2, 22, 19 and 40.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Will Arnett plays a wise therapist to a grief-stricken New Yorker played by Michelle Pfeiffer in the new series "The Madison." Taurus is the sign that rules the voice, and Arnett has the distinction of being the voice behind countless commercials and animated characters from "Batman" to "BoJack Horseman" and beyond. Now many know him best as the funny friend they wish was their very own, through his presence in the popular podcast "Smartless."
